Description
Party goers pose behind a board painted with caricatures in swimwear at a benefit event at the Carolands mansion, Hillsborough, California, 1947. The party was to raise money to preserve the mansion, which had been abandoned years before. Built at the behest of Harriet Pullman Carolan, the daughter of the Pullman railroad car manufacturer, the house was designed by French architect Ernest Sanson and completed in 1917, but was essentially abandoned by the 1930s.
